1. About SeekJob
SeekJob is an online platform that publishes job vacancies and other opportunities in Nigeria, including jobs, internships, scholarships, grants and training. Employers and organisations create an account to submit listings, and every listing is reviewed by our team before it is published. Job seekers do not need an account to browse or search listings.
For the purposes of applicable data protection law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, SeekJob is the controller of the personal data described in this policy.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you give us (employers)
When an employer or organisation registers and posts a listing, we collect:
- Account details: your email address and password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form, never in plain text).
- Company details: company or organisation name and any profile information you choose to add.
- Listing content: job titles, descriptions, requirements, locations, salary information, and the application link or email address you ask applicants to use.
- Messages you send to us through our contact email.
2.2 Information we collect automatically (all visitors)
When you visit the site, whether or not you have an account, our servers and certain technologies may automatically record:
- Technical data such as your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, and language settings.
- Usage data such as the pages you view, the listings you open, the search terms and filters you use, the date and time of your visit, and the page that referred you to us.
- Approximate location (such as country or city) derived from your IP address.
2.3 Information we do not collect
We do not ask job seekers to create a profile, upload a CV, or provide personal details in order to browse listings on SeekJob. When you apply for a job, you apply directly with the employer through the link or email address shown on the listing, and the information you send is handled by that employer, not by us.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage employer accounts and let employers submit and manage listings.
- Review listings for accuracy and to detect scams, fraud and misleading content before and after publication.
- Operate, maintain and improve the website, including search, performance and usability.
- Understand how visitors use the site so we can improve our content and features.
- Display advertising, which helps us keep SeekJob free for job seekers.
- Respond to enquiries, reports and requests, and send important service messages to employers.
- Protect the security and integrity of the site, enforce our policies, and comply with legal obligations.
Our lawful bases for processing include the need to provide the service you request, our legitimate interests in running and securing a safe platform, your consent where we ask for it (for example, for certain cookies), and compliance with legal obligations.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We and our partners use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
| Type | Purpose | Set by |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Keep employers signed in, protect forms against forgery, and keep the site working securely. | SeekJob |
| Advertising | Show ads, limit how often you see them, measure their performance, and help prevent fraud and invalid activity. | Google and its advertising partners |
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block cookies or alert you when a cookie is being set. If you disable essential cookies, employer sign-in will not work. If you disable advertising cookies, you will still see ads, but they may be less relevant to you.
5. Advertising and Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on SeekJob. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's previous visits to this website and other websites on the internet.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to SeekJob and/or other sites on the internet. The advertisers whose ads appear on our pages are chosen by Google's advertising systems; we do not select individual advertisers and we do not share your personal details with them.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, visit How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
- You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
Please note that ads on our pages are clearly separate from our listings. SeekJob does not endorse the products or services advertised, and we never ask visitors to click on advertisements.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these limited situations:
- Service providers: companies that help us run the site, such as hosting, database, analytics and email providers, who may process data only on our instructions.
- Advertising partners: Google and its partners, as described in section 5.
- Legal and safety reasons: where we are required by law, court order or a lawful request from authorities, or where it is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of SeekJob, our users or the public, including investigating fraud and scam listings.
- Business changes: if SeekJob is merged, sold or reorganised, information may be transferred to the new owner, who must continue to protect it in line with this policy.
Information that an employer places in a published listing (such as the company name, job details, and the email address or link for applications) is intentionally public and can be seen by anyone, including search engines.
7. Third-party websites and employers
Listings may link to employer websites or other external pages, and some listings ask you to apply by email. We do not control these third parties and are not responsible for their privacy practices or content. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any website you visit before sharing personal information.
8. Data retention
We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy. Employer account information is kept while the account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal, accounting and fraud-prevention needs. Listings that have expired or been removed may be kept in our records for a limited time. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymise it.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls, and review of administrator actions. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password for your employer account and keep it confidential.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on applicable law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you may have the right to:
- Ask whether we hold personal data about you and request a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Ask us to delete your data, where we no longer have a lawful reason to keep it.
- Object to or ask us to restrict certain processing, including processing for direct marketing.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent, without affecting processing that took place before withdrawal.
- Receive your data in a commonly used format, where applicable.
- Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission if you believe your data has been mishandled.
To exercise any of these rights, or to close your employer account, contact us at privacy@yourdomain.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within a reasonable time.
11. Children's privacy
SeekJob is intended for people aged 18 and over. Employer accounts may only be created by adults acting for a business or organisation. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
12. International data transfers
Some of our service providers, including Google and our hosting provider, may process data on servers outside Nigeria. Where this happens, we take steps to ensure that your information is protected by appropriate safeguards in line with applicable data protection law.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in our services or in the law. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of SeekJob after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
